Surviving the Holidays -- Here is my Plan!


Alright Alright Alright, I've been traveling ... going for a huge goal in my business .. and totally putting myself on the back burner. Yes it happens from time to time but I'm always committed to getting back on track and realizing the issue before it gets out of hand.

I've decided that i'm going to wait on ChaLEAN Extreme until i'm in a more stable place and pull out the 21 Day Fix. My all time favorite workout program. Best of all it's only 21 days long and gets you whipped back into shape QUICKLY!

I've got my meal plan all planned out and have been doing following it this week. I have been sticking with the workout and am excited to just get a normal routine back. Yep, I'm even pulling out my fix portion control containers and measuring out my food again. I will not let the holidays sabotage me. I WILL rock that little black dress come New Years. :)

I know that this plan is totally going to keep on track over these next few weeks, keep me focused, avoid the holiday weight gain, and create that perfect balance that I need. I totally still plan on enjoying the holidays and a portion of the goodies. But I am for sure getting in my workouts, checking in with my challenge groups, drinking my water, and choosing SOME of my favorites instead of all of them. It's all about creating that lifestyle that allows you to still enjoy but also get the results you want. Clean eating is the answer!! Truthfully. 

Here is my meal plan for the week. Lots of good things on there. It's not about depriving yourself or starving. It's about eating whole foods and sticking to the proper portions which the 21 day fix helps you with. It comes with these perfect little portion control containers that takes all the guess work out of everything. Truth be told it's a TON of food you actually get to eat when you are eating the right way.

Here is my menu plan for the week. Having GOOD clean meals is what keeps me on track. I'm not sacrificing flavor but i'm still eating clean. I share my menu plans every week in my challenge groups and help my challengers lean how to make their own. Clean eating is SO important to me because it's changed my life! Clean Eating Lasagna Soup

Last night we had this amazing dinner above. Best part about it, it tasted like a cheat but was actually CLEAN. Now this isn't the kind of meal I would eat every single night but it's good to have once a week and the family loved it. My husband is chopping on the leftovers and bragging about how good that soup is. I call it a WINNER!! 


Ingredients: 

8 ounces broken whole wheat lasagna noodles {{about 10 noodles}} 
1 Tbsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil 
1 Onion Chopped 
1/2 pound of turkey hot or sweet Italian Sausage 
3 cloves of garlic 
1 tsp dried oregano 
2 Tbsp of tomato paste {{no sugar added, organic preferred}} 
4 cups of low sodium chicken broth 
1 15 ounce can of crushed tomatoes 
1/2 cup chopped fresh basil 
1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
1/4 cup almond milk/coconut milk
Ricotta cheese for topping

Directions: 

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the noodles and cook as the label directs. Drain; drizzle with olive oil and toss.
Meanwhile, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large Dutch oven or heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring, until softened, about 4 minutes. Add the sausage, garlic and oregano and cook, stirring and breaking up the sausage with a wooden spoon, until the sausage is browned, about 3 minutes. Add the tomato paste and cook, stirring, until darkened, about 2 minutes.
Add the chicken broth, tomatoes and 1 cup water; cover and bring to a simmer. Uncover and cook until slightly reduced, about 10 minutes. Stir in the noodles, basil, parmesan and almond or coconut milk; simmer 2 more minutes.
Divide the soup among bowls. Top with ricotta and sliced basil.




Next time - I will leave the noodles out and add them in as I eat. I noticed that they got soggy as they sat in the fridge as leftovers.

New Year New You Challenge Group Open Now

I almost can't believe it but half of January is already GONE and Valentines is on it's way. If this year is anything like last year, it's going to FLY by. I just got back from spending a month with my family in Texas and had a wonderful time. It was one of the best Christmas's ever! Our whole family was able to be together at my aunt and uncles lake house. But it's officially over and I have so much to be thankful for in 2013. I can't wait to bring in 2014 even stronger. I am thinking and brainstorming of ways that I can make my challenge groups even BETTER and give even more to help others achieve their goals. I'm putting together new and improved groups this year and excited for all my new challengers!! We aren't playing around this year. So, I am INVITING YOU to be apart of this new system!! 



What is a health and fitness challenge!? 
It's a program that I've created to help you achieve all of your health and fitness goals by receiving daily motivation, accountability, and support through a closed online group. This year will NOT be the year that you are WISHING you started LAST MONDAY, WISH your close Fit better, or HATE SHOPPING! You will learn to be CONFIDENT, LOVE YOUR BODY, & BE HEALTHY! This year you will be making your New Years Resolution and STICKING TO IT! We always start out strong DAY ONE of the New Year !! We eat healthy all week long, go to the gym every single day, and stay on track for the first few weeks. After the excitement of reaching your goals has died down you slowly fall back into your old ways. You eat less healthy meals and do less workouts. Excuses being to creep in and you just decide that it's not worth it - YOU ARE NOT WORTH IT and it's TOO good to be TRUE! 

How do I know this!?! Because year after year after YEAR .. this was me!!! <---- 
I would sign up for an expensive gym membership, personal training sessions, and online nutrition programs. I started out strong the first few weeks and then decided that I just couldn't do it. It all became overwhelming. I would go to classes at the gym every now and then but excuses would always win because I just didn't see the results I was hoping for. 


So here is where I come in and where I say - THIS YEAR WILL BE DIFFERENT FOR YOU! I'm not going to let you make the same mistakes I did for years and years for ANOTHER YEAR! Definition of Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. 
It's time for a change!! I truly LOVE Beachbody because it takes the guess work out of everything. For years I struggled on the question of if I was really doing it right. Was I doing the right workouts, was I eating the right things, and was I doing enough. WIth this you don't have to think about anything. IT's all given to you. There are so many programs to meet all needs and likes. If you like high intensity cardio and dancing there is something for you!! If you like boot camp style, we got that. If you want short and sweet, we have that too. If you are looking for a beginner level program to just get you started, YEP, got that too. All you do is press play and follow the trainer. They give you a schedule of workouts that will give you the best possible results. No matter what you are looking for I know that I can find your SOUL MATE workout and hook you up with something you will LOVE! 


The part that most people struggle with is the nutrition part of the plan. 80% of your results come from nutrition. Abs are made in the kitchen. Nutrition was always the part that confused me and  would get frustrated because I couldn't figure out just exactly what I needed to eat and would just give up. There are so many "diets" "quick fixes" and meals that claim to be healthy but really aren't. I lived in Smart One frozen meals, healthy choice meals, and light versions of the real thing. This is what MOST of us fuel our body with, boxed meals that claim to be low on calories but what they mask is the high sodium and non nutritional value they contain. I would workout like crazy doing tons of cardio but could never get the results I wanted because I didn't have that perfect balance. Something needed to change and that is when I decide to look up clean eating. The moment I changed my diet, meal planned, and embraced the lifestyle of eating clean, EVERYTHING CHANGED! I felt better, had more energy, lost weight, had more definition, and was loosing weight. I could actually EAT instead of live on one slim fast a day and a salad. Since that day that I decided to change my goal has been to share this knowledge with others and show you that you don't have to starve to get the results you want and teach people how to eat clean and create their own weekly meal plans.

The last part of this equation is Shakeology. It's not a weight loss shake but it's a total meal replacement shake. It's not a protein shake but a well balanced meal that is equivalent to 6 salads in one glass. I use to be hungry all the time because I wasn't fueling my body with the proper nutrition. It's now the one thing that keeps me full, tastes so YUMMY, and has saved me so many times from making bad decisions. When I craved something bad, was on the go, or didn't have time to make a meal .. Marlena Hedine's Final October Challenge "Gimme that Little Black Dress"



The holidays are coming into town!! Summer is OFFICIALLY over and the colder weather is rolling in. That means big sweaters, boots, holiday food, candy, desserts, family pictures, skinny jeans, and less time and money! There are a million excuses of why you should just give up the next 80 ish days of the year and just wait till January. I'm a busy Mom too, I get it! October for me means my girls birthday party, our vacation to the Big Island, my MIL is in town, we are going to stay a night at the Disney resort, and trick or treating. Basically every weekend this month is Jam packed and I don't think November is showing any signs of slowing down. Next will be Thanksgiving and then flying home for a three week holiday with my family. My point is the perfect time will NEVER come!! You will never be fully prepared to chase after your goals and dreams.



1. I'll just wait until January to get started this year is already almost over. It's too late. 
2. The baby won't sleep at night and I am getting up a MILLION times a night. <--- Been there! 
3. Shakeology is just TOO expensive
4. I have too many other expenses this month
5. My toddler is cranky and clingy 
6. I am so tired all of the time. There are not enough hours in the day. 


YEP, I've given almost every single one of these excuses and they are totally legit and REAL Excuses. However, I have learned along the way that you can ALWAYS give up a little time. Right now as you sit and ready this blog, watch your Tv Show, and play your computer games you could knock out a workout. You could literally pop in T25, get a 25 min workout DONE, and DVR your favorite show and then watch it in the same amount of time it would have taken you to sit on the couch and watch every last commercial. 

Sometimes it just takes sitting down rearranging your schedule, your determination, drive, and your power to change. 

Then it comes down to your nutrition. You could also to choose to get an exercise program going but never really change your diet. You will never quite reach the goals that you were hoping to receive. It's easy to continue with your counting calories but continuing on consuming over processed, fatty, and high sodium food. But it's REALLY HARD to continue working out so hard and never see the results you worked so hard to get. YUP! I've been there! Honestly, I use to use my workouts as an excuse to eat whatever I wanted but never quite had the results I was wanting to get. Clean eating doesn't mean you are giving up all of your favorites it just means you are learning how to cook your favorites DIFFERENT, HEALTHIER, and in a way that is going to get you the results you are looking to get. It's time to start watching what you put in your mouth. Ditch counting calories Stop depriving yourself every day with crazy starvation diets where you only eat carrots and drink water. 

YUP, it's time to learn how to eat REALLY REALLY yummy food that leave you full and satisfied. 
Nope, I'm not talking about following crazy recipes that have 10 million ingredients and one is from China or India. HA! 
Just NORMAL Clean Eating FOOD! Kid and Hubby approved Yummy and Clean Eats! 
All of my favorites which included some crock pot meals, oven baked dishes, healthy breakfast recipes,  quick and easy snacks. 
I think it's SERIOUSLY TIME!! The TIME will NEVER be perfect but if you start NOW you could accomplish SO MUCH MORE! 
The sooner you make a change, the sooner you will have more energy, more confidence, and the ability to go out and do things you couldn't do before!

Weight loss Transformation Success Stories




30 Day T25 Transformation 
It's Friday afternoon and I just wanted to share with you a few success stories from varies challenge groups I have going right now. I could not contain my excitement for everyone. These are only a few of the large amount of transformations that are showing up in my inbox and in our group over the last few days.

This is Brittany and is actually a challenger that joined our group through one of my coaches! That is serious a direct reflection of the ripple effect!! Brittany's coach had an amazing transformation in one of my previous challenge groups and is now a coach touching lives just as I had hers. LOVE IT! So amazing to witness. Brittany is only on day 30 of her journey and has already lost 16 lbs and 10.5 inches. Her transformation is jaw dropping and I'm so proud of her. Not only has she changed the way her body looks but she has changed her outlook on life. So proud of this girl and am so happy for what her future holds. I love it when I can hear that because of Shakeology, working out, and the positivity of our challenge groups that a person was able to love life again and get off anti depressant medication. That means the absolute world to me. 

It would be easy for each of my challengers to make excuses. They are Mom's, have multiple jobs, and responsibilities. It would be easy to go to the drive-thru and grab a burger and fries, it would be easy to turn off the alarm clock and go back to sleep, it would be easy to skip the grocery shopping. However, these ladies decided to stay committed and determined. They leaned on each other and on our challenge group to push through and BAM - RESULTS! It's only 25 minutes a day, 5 days a week!! That's IT!!! You don't have to spend hours in the gym, you don't need any special equipment it comes with everything you need, and you can do it right in the comfort of your home. Literally get up, get dressed, and workout. Then check in with our challenge group and tell us you nailed it .. root on others in the group ... and do it again the next day. The one time investment is 100% worth it.

Amanda has been committed since day one! Posting in the group, sharing pictures, recipes, and every step of her journey. She has been a true inspiration! She got sick along her journey and wasn't able to completely commit to the Beta phase of T25 so she is starting over and ROCKING IT! Her transformation is amazing so I know she is going to only get better! Can't wait.

I am so proud of each of these ladies who committed to clean eating, drinking their daily shakeology, and doing their workouts. Each of them are committed to continue their journey of this new and improved lifestyle they have created. I know that it's so hard to trust someone when they tell you that they are going to help you change your life and that this time really is going to be the time you actually do it ... you are actually going to get results and change everything. I'm so thankful for each of these girls trusting their coaches and our challenge groups to help them reach their goals. You see so many transformation stories through the internet, infomercials, and magazines but you never really think it's going to happen to you. You are SO scared to invest more money to a product that is just going to collect dust on your self. Anyone can get a workout program but all of my challengers will tell you that the SUPPORT & ACCOUNTABILITY were the main factors of their success. The missing piece to these programs is that person to check in with you, support you, teach you what to eat, and place you in a group full of like minded people in the same spot as you. Having the encouragement when every day doesn't go perfect and allowing it to get you right back on track can not be replaced!!



For me personally I lost all of my baby weight through a challenge group just like the ones I offer now. I always try and give everyone the same tools that I had through my personal journey! Join my September 30th Challenge Group and be on your way to a better you this holiday season. Instead of gaining weight you will actually be loosing weight, look great in all of your holiday attire, and feel amazing when it comes time to getting together with family. Need a PASSION, JOB CHANGE, or LIFE CHANGE!?!?

I then developed a team of coaches through the transformations and they also became my close friends and are developing their own successful business. Sounds so EASY - Too good to be TRUE ... But I meant it!! This is the real DEAL! I never in a million years thought that this opportunity of just wanting to feel good in a bathing suit would turn into such a dream job. All I did was SHARE recipes, SHARE tips, and SHARED my life struggles.  Through my own personal journey, I was able to build a business that I love waking up to everyday. I also have a team of coaches who are also passionate about helping others and making an impact. These coaches aren't only my teammates but they are my FRIENDS! I'm just like you!! My house is messy, I have two young kids, I have school work to help with, my own workouts to do, dinner to make but I make time for this. I have come up with a plan that works for me and allows me to have the best of both worlds. I have been consistant since day one and have done the right things to get these results. I love what I do and want to show you how to balance it all and create a plan to get the same success if you join my team.

Challenge Group Transformation Stories



Today is normally when I post a Monday Meal Plan and I still Plan on doing that but really wanted to share a few transformation stories that really stuck out to me over these last few months. If you keep up with my blog and Facebook page you know that I run monthly challenge groups through closed Facebook Groups. In the group we assign accountability partners, create menu plans together, and set goals.

The people in my challenge group, WHEN DEDICATED, and follow everything that is given to them get amazing results. I'm always so humbled, excited, and blessed to share the results of the ones that don't mind. I'm able to share with you a little piece of the results that come out of these challenge groups.

In this post I would like to share the results of these three challengers and give you a little inside peak of what we share in these challenge groups. It's more then just another accountability group. We dig deep into the reason that each person is joining and how they will feel once accomplishing their goals.



Ashley came to me 4 months ago looking to feel better, have more energy, and gain back her health. She's a busy momma and needing something to get her back on track. This challenge group works perfect because she can workout from home and replace one meal a day with Shakeology. This makes everything so much easier because it's one meal she doesn't even have to think about but gives her the nutrients her body needs. She never gave up and joined challenge after challenge. In 4 months she is showing amazing results. These type of transformations truly inspire me. Insanity, clean eating, and Shakeology.

Megan continues to go strong in my challenge groups and her results are amazing!! She isn't giving up and doesn't plan on slowing down. She wrote an amazing blog post about her journey.



 "I reached out to Marlena. She helped save my life.  I'm still in a challenge group. Still going strong, and still not giving up. I'm doing ChaLEAN extreme, T25, and walking 3 miles(at least) 4-7 days a week. 
I was asked again to write my goals out and I set them so low, because a part of me thought I would quit. I started the challenge at about 220lbs.( the heaviest I had ever been) I now weigh about 205lbs. My one week goal was to not quit, and I didn't even slow down!"

Missy joined my challenge group with TurboFire and has been rocking it since day one. She always checks in with the group sharing her recipes, her run time, and how many calories she has burned. She has been crazy motivated since day one and even just completed the 3 day Shakeology cleanse loosing 3lbs in 3 days. Jump started her journey and is continuing with T-25. I love watching her journey and love how open she is with sharing it. She is going to do amazing things! 





I truly love having the opportunity to run these challenge groups because I get to witness and be apart of these type of transformations each and everyday. I don't do anything special but inspire others to reach their goals!! Together we are better and together it's SO much easier!!!

I run challenges every month and as long as I continue results and transformations will be produced. Not because of me but because the people who join and are ready to use everything I give them and make it happen.
