21 Day Fix Grocery List

I am SO in love with the 21 Day Fix Meal plan!! It's my new go to guide when it comes to meal planning each week. I really love the WHOLE PROGRAM! I truly feel like it was GENIUS! 

I love the containers
I love how they are color coded for each food group 
I love that you know exactly how much to eat of each food with out even TRYING
No calorie counting
No guessing
I love the workouts
I love that they are short
I love that they work the entire body

So .. that MIGHT sum it up ... but not really!! 

I mostly love that my challengers are FINALLY finding something that works and getting AMAZING results all while learning how to properly fuel their bodies. 

I have been following the fix meal plan for a month now and I can tell you that I don't even have to use the containers most days. I can pretty much eyeball how much of each food group I'm suppose to have. It's become a HABIT and something that I just do and follow. 



I love how I didn't really have to change much to the clean eating plan that I already follow but It really let me zero in on how many portions of each food group that I needed to have daily. I still have a complex carb and protein with every meal.

When I head to the grocery store every week I pretty much have the same things on my list. No, they aren't always used for the same meals but normally the same ingredients are used and mixed around to make various meals. There are a list of foods that are approved on the 21 day fix and most of them are what I was already currently eating so it made things pretty simple. I can't tell you exactly what to buy but I can give you a good idea of what you should see in your cart each week. 


Proteins (RED)

Lean chicken breast
Pork Tenderloin
Flank steak
Eggs
Lean ground turkey
Salmon/Tilapia
Plain greek yogurt
Organic veggie burgers
Protein powder

Turkey Meat, Ham, and Turkey Bacon are on the list. I do enjoy Turkey bacon at least once a week with my breakfast but it's not something that I would include in your diet daily. It's higher in sodium and your body will retain water. So I try and stay away from these things. 


Healthy Fats (BLUE) 

Avocado (I love the mini wholly guacamole, perfect size for the blue container) 
Raw unsalted nuts (I like almonds and walnuts) 
All natural Peanut Butter
Hummus
Feta
Extra virgin olive oil
Coconut oil

I do have to say this is the category that I found I was eating way to much of. I really really love my peanut butter, hummus and avocado. I would eat all of these in one day and it was one of the main factors holding me back from progress. YES they are healthy but having to much of a good thing CAN hurt you. That's what I love about this plan. You can be a beginner or a pro clean eater but you are still going to learn something. I've eliminated a lot of dairy from my diet and i've noticed less bloating and stomach pains.

1/2 Banana

Limes/Lemons for flavor in water or on fish.

If you are really wanting to shed weight or only have a little bit to lose. Stay away from Grapes, Mangos, and Banana's. Those are higher in Sugar and Banana's are high in starch. This is a hard one for me because I love fruit but I promise the minute you make these small changes you will see those changes you have been wanting to see. Also try and have your fruits earlier in the day.

No CORN is not a vegetable people!!! It's a STARCH! Stay away from it.

Clean Eating Meal Ideas - Clean Eating Made SIMPLE!





All the time I get people coming to me for ideas on what to have as snacks and breakfast that is clean and healthy. 

MOST of the time people are looking for breakfast ideas because of a few reasons. Ask your self which category you fit in? 

1. They Skip Breakfast and are looking for something quick to have. 

2. Don't have time to make breakfast in the morning so instead go through a drive through or grab donuts at the office. 

3. Aren't really sure what is healthy, clean, or good for you so they have cereal or pre packaged meals. 


So which one do you fit in!?!? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so seriously make sure you prep your breakfasts, wake up earlier to cook something, or invest in Shakeology
My favorite and what I recommend to all of my challengers for either Breakfast or Lunch!! Sometimes even DINNER! It's a nutrition, meal replacement, shake that is equal to over 7 trips to the salad bar but taste like desert!!

So here are my breakfast ideas! I hope this helps you when you are meal planning for the week!! It's so important to eat right when you wake up to rev up your metabolism and get your body burning calories.

At lunch time I normally keep it pretty simple. I'll eat something left over from the night before.

A lot of people only eat 3 meals a day IF THAT! I have to tell you that you can just as much hurt your self by eating too much by not eating enough. Part of the reason you might not be losing weight but eating healthy is because you aren't eating enough. Snacks keep your metabolism going all day long to continue burning calories and building muscle. It also helps maintain your sugar levels and prevent you from overeating at meal time. 
I know that most offices keep a ton of goodies around and have vending machines but the biggest tip that I could give you is PACK YOUR MEALS AND SNACKS!! Stay away!! 
If you want to see results, feel better, have more energy, and live longer ... Pack your meals and eat clean!

How to have a Guilt Free Easter


Something that is on my mind today ....
I know that many of you are going in to a weekend of remembrance with family, food, and drinks.
A lot of you may get teased or made fun of for your healthy decisions. 
{{I've been there}}
Thing is, DO IT FOR YOU!!! It doesn't matter what everyone else thinks, you are eating healthy because it makes you happy, it allows you to feel good, have energy, and reach your goals. Whatever everyone else thinks really doesn't matter. They will be the ones asking you for help in the future and feeling full, sleepy, and bloated come Sunday.
If you aren't happy eating healthy, eating in moderation, and living this lifestyle then you need to re evaluate your goals. It should be something you do for LIFE.
You can wish and dream for a certain type of body and then eat whatever you want. You have to align your lifestyle with your goals and what makes you HAPPY!
Just something on my mind as we go into this holiday weekend.
I know that it's hard .. but if you keep in mind how you are going to feel come Sunday - You WILL do better!!

21 Day Fix Transformations

YEP ... It's #transformation tuesday people!! That means it's time to take a look at how all my 21 day fix challenge groups are doing and share with you some of their results. At one point I had about 4 Fix challenge groups going and ROCKING it out!! I love this program and it's totally changed so many of my challengers lives. It's crazy how much your body can change and respond in only 21 days when you are using portion control and clean eating. I think that most people think of when they hear the 21 day fix is "oh, that's just a QUICK FIX" well answer is NO. The principals taught in this program are principals you will always keep with you. You are being taught proper portion control and also gives you a variety of food to choose from to form balanced meals that your whole family will love. I make chicken and shrimp stir fry that the entire family loves, grilled fish, turkey burgers with sweet potatoes but am able to give myself the correct portions. I can even have my properly portioned wine. I love how EASY it is and it really is a great tool for anyone that is in need of some serious guidance in clean eating or wanting to learn how to use portion control.

Not only do you get an amazing nutrition plan to get you on track but you also get 21 Days worth of 30 minute workouts that includes a schedule of exactly what to do. It's literally no brainer, you just have to #pressplay and do it. All you need to do is give me THREE MONDAYS, No need to spend hours in the gym. Just 30 minutes a day for 21 days. I seriously love Autumns workouts!! They totally keep me engaged, excited every time, and I am literally spent after most workouts. It really is a great workout in the amount of time you are given. There are all different levels to follow so that this program can really work for everyone. 

So how do people get such great results with this program !?!? Well when you combine a whole body workout program and a great nutrition plan PLUS the support/encouragement from my challenge groups you get amazing SUCESS!! This transformation above is proof that just because these scale doesn't move does NOT mean that you aren't getting results. Michelle actually gained 3 pounds but lost inches obviously. Throw that scale away and realize that you are replacing muscle with fat and it weighs more!

My Clean Eating Meal Plan & Meal Prep

How does Marlena Hedine keep herself entertained during Meal Prep!?!? Yep, you got that right ... I find a show i'm addicted to or a book and focus on that. It totally is MY TIME, where i'm able to get my self ready for the week, cook all my meals, and just relax. Plus, knowing that I i'm doing something productive and getting to catch up on some shows totally gets my butt off the couch and into the kitchen to spend those few hours. So, if you are looking for a way to MAKE yourself prep each week .. this is totally the way to go. Get Netflix on your lap top and stream your guilty pleasures.

I'm already all caught up on "Carrie the High school Days", "Revenge", and a few other favorites so I started watching this show and It's okay. Not my favorite but I was able to get into it a bit. It's not a I can't live with out show but kept me entertained. I've heard Breaking Bad is good so I may start that one this Sunday during Prepping time.

I've been slacking on the meal planning lately to be honest. I've been busy with my challengers and coaches on my team that I haven't been taking the time out to work on myself and keep myself in check. So I knew it was time to put my foot down and take care of myself. Feels so good to have a yummy lunch already portioned out and ready for me in the fridge. Totally delicious. I know you will feel the same way if you can just take the time out each week to do something GOOD for yourself and family that is going to keep you on track. I know it's hard for busy Momma's to step aside and do anything for themselves but I promise you it's worth it and it will actually make your week less stressful and you will end up spending less at the grocery store. 

So here is my meal plan for the week. I laid it all out so that it's set and ready to go.

I normally do all my batch cooking on Sundays but this week I had so much going on that i wasn't able to get it in till Wednesday during the day. To be honest, I was going crazy with out my meal plan. It was much harder to stay on track. 
I started with putting a cup of Quinoa on the stove and cooking that up. I then put my Asparagus in the oven to roast with a little bit of olive oil and minted garlic. While that was cooking I started cooking my Tilapia. I coated it with slivered almonds and some Mrs Dash seasonings. A little bit of Olive Oil in the pan and pan sautéed it. Seriously DELISH!! Once the Quinoa was done I placed it in the pan I was cooking the fish in and added in frozen peas and carrots and a bit of light soy sauce to give it some flavor and just let it heat up a bit to defrost the veggies.
Once everything was done I portioned it out and put in individual containers I could just grab and warm up. Someone asked me what fish tasted like warmed up and honestly it taste just as good. Delish!! I really enjoyed my lunch today and felt spoiled. It was an amazing meal. Asparagus was perfect, Quinoa felt like comfort food. If you have never had Quinoa you should try it. It's like rice but is so much better for you. Packed full of protein and minerals. It's a POWER HOUSE FOOD!

Working on Portion Control!?!? This should help!! The 21 Day Fix is also great for teaching you all about that if you need more help with meal planning and prepping.

I then got my snacks ready to go for the week by portioning those out in little baggies. I portioned out a big handful of carrots in each little baggy and plan on having that with 2 tbsp of hummus for a PM snack. It's easier for me just to have the same snacks pretty much every day and it honestly doesn't bug me. If I get bored i'll switch it up. But for now it works for me. I've been eating this snack for a year now. I also grabbed big honey crisp apple (yummmm) and portioned out 14 almonds into a baggy for an am snack. Some other snacks I plan on having is PB toast (whole wheat of course and all natural) and plain yogurt with a bit of honey and blackberries. But it is all portioned out and ready to go in my fridge so I can just easily grab. I have some quest bars or easy grabbing as well.

Breakfast is super easy and a no brainer for me and the hubby. We both drink Shakeology!! I shake it up with 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup almond milk and ice! Easy Peasy!! I love that I don't even have to think about it that's it's a perfect meal that is ready to go. I'll have that with a cup of coffee with a little bit of almond milk

I plan on making Turkey Burgers and roasted sweet potato fries for dinner tonight over a bed of spinach topped with avocados so I'll make some extra for lunches if I want to switch it up a bit. My girls also eat this for lunch. 

I have all my dinners planned for the week, grocery shopping done, and i'm confident for the rest of the week. My goal is to really push hard in my workouts, drink m daily amount of water, and stay on track with my meal plan so I can really rock my results and feel GREAT! It's not just about having a nice body but feeling good. When I eat bad I feel sluggish and literally crud. Tummy aches and bloat. 

I really really love carbs so the fact that I have this all portioned out and I can't just grab a tortilla with PB for every meal (because I totally would) is the way I want it. I have a cruise coming up and I want to feel great in my Bikini. It's all about feeling CONFIDENT! Who doesn't want to feel this way!?!? It's worth it!

P90X3 Week 2 Meal Plan & Update


So I'm finally able to blog about P90X3 Week 2. I feel like I've tried to start this program so many times and life gets in the way. We never slow down, but that's life right!??! It never goes the way you plan or want it to go. I got sick, went from visiting the family for a whole month to coming home jet lag, blah blah blah. Thing is I never gave up. Although, I wasn't perfect during all those "LIFE" situations coming up I still did my workouts they just weren't up to my standards so I opted to just re do week 2 and do it the right way. So I kind of felt like I was starting all over again but that's how it goes. There is always something thrown at us when everything is going right. The best thing you can do is pick your self up, do your best and just forget everything else. This is how I live life and exactly what I tell my challengers. As long as you don't quit and just keep showing up I'm proud of you!

So, this week I BROUGHT it. I had my food prepped, I am drinking plenty of water, getting my morning workouts in, and I'm feeling it. My body is sore but I love that feeling. It means nothing but CHANGE!!

I feel good about what i'm doing! I'm not beating myself up about missing some workouts or not having it perfect. Remember that when you are starting a program! If things don't go right the whole 90 days of P90X3 and you miss some workouts and don't always eat perfect that it's okay. Don't be mad at yourself. Just know and BELIEVE that you will get there it just may take a little bit longer than the planned 90 days but that is okay.

I felt like this week was much better than the first week. I had the workouts down, I knew what I was doing, and I was able to BRING IT! Week 1 is always tough .. but keep pushing once you get to week 2 and 3 it gets much easier. You are able to get your groove going and really push it.

So I also like to do my meal plan every sunday and add on my workouts so I know exactly what i'm doing. I plan, I take inventory of my fridge, shop, and prep everything so that I'm set up for a complete week of success. I like to eat clean!! I feel good, have more energy, and it's the most important when looking for awesome results.

I eat 5-6 small meals a day every 2-3 hours, pair each meal up with a lean protein and complex carb, and limit my intake to 2 starchy carbs a day. I also drink half my body weight in water. For all Recipes on my meal plan go to the clean eating recipes tab on my blog.

New Year New You Challenge Group Open Now

I almost can't believe it but half of January is already GONE and Valentines is on it's way. If this year is anything like last year, it's going to FLY by. I just got back from spending a month with my family in Texas and had a wonderful time. It was one of the best Christmas's ever! Our whole family was able to be together at my aunt and uncles lake house. But it's officially over and I have so much to be thankful for in 2013. I can't wait to bring in 2014 even stronger. I am thinking and brainstorming of ways that I can make my challenge groups even BETTER and give even more to help others achieve their goals. I'm putting together new and improved groups this year and excited for all my new challengers!! We aren't playing around this year. So, I am INVITING YOU to be apart of this new system!! 



What is a health and fitness challenge!? 
It's a program that I've created to help you achieve all of your health and fitness goals by receiving daily motivation, accountability, and support through a closed online group. This year will NOT be the year that you are WISHING you started LAST MONDAY, WISH your close Fit better, or HATE SHOPPING! You will learn to be CONFIDENT, LOVE YOUR BODY, & BE HEALTHY! This year you will be making your New Years Resolution and STICKING TO IT! We always start out strong DAY ONE of the New Year !! We eat healthy all week long, go to the gym every single day, and stay on track for the first few weeks. After the excitement of reaching your goals has died down you slowly fall back into your old ways. You eat less healthy meals and do less workouts. Excuses being to creep in and you just decide that it's not worth it - YOU ARE NOT WORTH IT and it's TOO good to be TRUE! 

How do I know this!?! Because year after year after YEAR .. this was me!!! <---- 
I would sign up for an expensive gym membership, personal training sessions, and online nutrition programs. I started out strong the first few weeks and then decided that I just couldn't do it. It all became overwhelming. I would go to classes at the gym every now and then but excuses would always win because I just didn't see the results I was hoping for. 


So here is where I come in and where I say - THIS YEAR WILL BE DIFFERENT FOR YOU! I'm not going to let you make the same mistakes I did for years and years for ANOTHER YEAR! Definition of Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. 
It's time for a change!! I truly LOVE Beachbody because it takes the guess work out of everything. For years I struggled on the question of if I was really doing it right. Was I doing the right workouts, was I eating the right things, and was I doing enough. WIth this you don't have to think about anything. IT's all given to you. There are so many programs to meet all needs and likes. If you like high intensity cardio and dancing there is something for you!! If you like boot camp style, we got that. If you want short and sweet, we have that too. If you are looking for a beginner level program to just get you started, YEP, got that too. All you do is press play and follow the trainer. They give you a schedule of workouts that will give you the best possible results. No matter what you are looking for I know that I can find your SOUL MATE workout and hook you up with something you will LOVE! 


The part that most people struggle with is the nutrition part of the plan. 80% of your results come from nutrition. Abs are made in the kitchen. Nutrition was always the part that confused me and  would get frustrated because I couldn't figure out just exactly what I needed to eat and would just give up. There are so many "diets" "quick fixes" and meals that claim to be healthy but really aren't. I lived in Smart One frozen meals, healthy choice meals, and light versions of the real thing. This is what MOST of us fuel our body with, boxed meals that claim to be low on calories but what they mask is the high sodium and non nutritional value they contain. I would workout like crazy doing tons of cardio but could never get the results I wanted because I didn't have that perfect balance. Something needed to change and that is when I decide to look up clean eating. The moment I changed my diet, meal planned, and embraced the lifestyle of eating clean, EVERYTHING CHANGED! I felt better, had more energy, lost weight, had more definition, and was loosing weight. I could actually EAT instead of live on one slim fast a day and a salad. Since that day that I decided to change my goal has been to share this knowledge with others and show you that you don't have to starve to get the results you want and teach people how to eat clean and create their own weekly meal plans.

The last part of this equation is Shakeology. It's not a weight loss shake but it's a total meal replacement shake. It's not a protein shake but a well balanced meal that is equivalent to 6 salads in one glass. I use to be hungry all the time because I wasn't fueling my body with the proper nutrition.
